Hanuman's journey to Lanka

Hanuman’s Journey to Lanka
(From the Sundarkand – in simple words)

Once, Sita, Lord Rama’s wife, was taken away by the demon king Ravana to the island of Lanka. Rama was very sad and wanted to find her. He sent his brave devotee Hanuman to search for Sita.

Hanuman was no ordinary monkey. He was strong, wise, and full of devotion to Lord Rama. To reach Lanka, Hanuman had to cross the mighty ocean. So, he climbed a big mountain, prayed to Lord Rama, and with one powerful leap, he flew across the sea like a bird in the sky.

As he reached Lanka, Hanuman made himself small so no one could see him. He quietly searched every house and garden until he found Sita sitting sadly under a tree in Ashoka Vatika, Ravana’s garden. She looked tired and unhappy.

Hanuman climbed a tree nearby and dropped Lord Rama’s ring in front of her. When Sita saw the ring, her eyes filled with tears. Hanuman spoke softly, “I am Hanuman, Lord Rama’s servant. He will come soon to rescue you.”

Sita felt hopeful again.

But soon, the guards saw Hanuman. He fought them bravely. Ravana’s son came to stop him, but Hanuman defeated him too. Ravana got angry and ordered his men to set Hanuman’s tail on fire. But Hanuman used his burning tail to set fire to many buildings in Lanka!

Then, with a mighty jump, Hanuman flew back across the ocean to tell Rama about Sita.

Rama was proud. He hugged Hanuman and said, “You have done a great deed, my friend.”
